President Nana Akufo-Addo has revealed that this year, his government will keep working on pushing the pass the Legislative Instrument (LI) on the National Youth and Sports Act.

The Act has been under discussion for some time now after the Bill was passed by Parliament during the time of former Sports Minister, Mustapha Ahmed.

The President made this pronouncement when read the State of the Nation’s Address in Parliament on Thursday.

The Bill was to help streamline the activities of the National Sports Authority and to clothe the entity with enough legal backing to help it achieve more.

The bill has been criticised for the absence of a clear plan in terms of funding but that challenge seems to have been resolved with the discussions in line with the setting up of a National Sports Fund as stated in the budget read in November 2017 and the subsequent forum on the matter.

The President went on to reaffirm the government’s intentions of working on the National Sports College Bill and setting up the Sports Fund.
