Ejisuman Senior High School
The Board of Directors of the Ejisuman Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region has petitioned the National Security and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to investigate the alleged sexual misconduct by some teachers against female students in the school to establish the truth or otherwise of the claims.
In addition, the board has also written to the Presidency to bring to book, persons who claimed were from the Flagstaff House and interfered in activities of the school.
The board further called for boundaries to be established for chiefs in the region regarding the administration of the school.
The Board Chairman of the school, Rev. Fr Dr Paul Atta Nsiah, said the investigations had become necessary following allegations contained in a petition by the Nkosuohene of Ejisu, Nana Kofi Poku, to the Ghana Education Service (GES), alleging that a number of female students in the school were being sexually exploited by some male teachers.
The allegations were further fueled after a former student of the school, Ms Elizabeth Amponsah Gyan, claimed in a radio interview that, she had sex with a male teacher while in school to enable her come by GH¢100 to pay her school fees.
Evidence
At a press conference organised at Ejisu by the school authorities, the board chairman said the school did not have any evidence to back what Ms Gyan was alleging and therefore urged national security operatives to delve into the matter and deal with those found culpable according to law.
On the allegation made by the Nkosuohene of Ejisu regarding sexual exploitation in the school, Rev. Fr Dr Nsiah said the allegation could be a case of sour grapes on the part of the chief who failed to receive nomination to serve on the school’s board.
Reaction
In his reaction, Nana Poku denied all the allegations describing them as false.
He said he took the action to report the conduct of the teachers in the school to the police because as a chief, he had a fiduciary duty not to allow the image of the school to be tainted.
According to the chief, he had earlier sued the school’s board and the chairman in particular on the same allegations that were being peddled, but had to withdraw the suit after pleas from some personalities in the area.
