The Education Ministry has described as worrying reported cases of sexual harassment of pupils by their teachers in parts of the country.
Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Cassandra Ampofo told Joy News teachers are supposed to be “role models” to the pupils or students they teach and not to be bedmates.
Her comments come in the wake of sex scandals involving two schools in two different regions with an accompanying leaked sex video between the headmaster of Adumanu D/A Basic in the Central Region and a 19-year-old girl who was once a student of the school.
Even though the sexual encounter is believed to have happened a long time ago while the lady was still a student of Adumanu, the act was made public in a leaked video which has been trending on many social media networks over the last few days.
Mr Robert Seppey, the headmaster of the school is seen in the leaked video, having sex on a kitchen stool with the young woman who was once a pupil of Adumanu.
The video has triggered mass outrage among residents of Adumanu in the Central Region, with some demanding the mass transfer of all male teachers, many of whom, they accuse of harassing the pupils.
Mr Seppey has been on the run, moments after the video was made public but he has been relieved of his position nonetheless.
A two-member committee has been constituted to investigate the matter and interim head appointed to act.
Just when the dust on the Adumanu sex scandal will settle, another sex controversy has surfaced, this time in the Ashanti Region.
Residents of Ejisuman are also accusing teachers of Ejisuman SHS of sleeping and sexually harassing the students, a claim, the teachers have vehemently denied.
Some students who claimed to have been sexually harassed by teachers of the school have had to enroll in other schools.
Some of them told Luv News’ Prince Appiah their mobile phones were seized by the teachers and the only condition under which the phones will be returned is when they offer sex.
But the Board Chair of the school, Rev Father Dr Paul Atta Nsiah has denied the claim and has challenged the accusers to provide evidence.
He accused the Nkosuohene of the Ejisu traditional area of inciting the students to make the frivolous allegations against them.
Speaking to Joy News on the matter, Cassandra Ampofo said the Education Ministry is “deeply worried” about the scandals and has taken steps to investigate the matter.
She said all the allegations made in the two cases will be thoroughly investigated and far-reaching decisions will be taken.
