James Kwabena Bomfeh has called on the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, to “sit up” and adopt stringent measures to safeguard the nation.

A Police Officer was gunned down on Sunday at the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters after suspected armed robbers stormed the place.

Six Ghanaian suspects and a Nigerian reportedly went to the District Police to free colleagues in cell resulting in the demise of the Police Officer.

Following the incident, the Police has assured the public they will go the length and breadth of the country to capture the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.

Commenting on the issue on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly called Kabila, wondered why the IGP seems to be slacking in his capacity to combat crime in the nation.

According to him, the IGP has not really done anything to be ahead of these criminals in the society.

Kabila urged the IGP to beef security by empowering and equipping the Police, asking how safe Ghanaians are if the law enforcers themselves are under a major threat from criminals and can’t protect themselves.

He further raised issues with record keeping and intelligence gathering abilities of the Police in a bid to protect the society.

To him, there is not enough intelligence gathering by the Police and so he would have the Police service to step up their game.

Kabila also asked the government to treat the death of the Police Officer shot by the robbers at Kwabenya with uttermost urgency and importance like the nation did with the late Major Adam Mahama.

“I’m praying that we will attach the same importance to it as we did to Major Mahama. Where is the intelligence report on Major Mahama’s death? What lessons have we learned so far . . . All the political narratives and rhetorics have been to embolden such recklessness and impunity in this country”, he said.
