The police administration has begun investigations to ascertain whether three men arrested with seven hand grenades on Monday are terror suspects.

The men were picked up in different areas in Accra after police picked up intelligence, Monday.

The lead suspect was arrested in Odorkor after which he led the police team to pick up two of his accomplices.

It is unclear the motives of the suspect even though unconfirmed reports have linked one of them to international terrorist group ISIS.

The Inspector General of Police David Asante Appeatu at a press conference in Accra Tuesday, called for calm as the police investigate the matter.

He told pressmen their investigations will cover how the suspects had access to the hand grenades, who they are and whether they have any link at all with any terrorist group.

They are yet to confirm the names and nationalities of the suspects.

“I wish to assure you and all Ghanaians as well as the international community to remain calm as we investigate this matter of police seizure.

“…We are working together with the relevant agencies to get to get to the bottom of this matter.

Scores of investigators and specialists are being dispatched to various locations and we are treating this matter with all the seriousness it deserves,” he assured.

He appealed to the general public to volunteer any information that will assist the police.

Meanwhile, a security expert with the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre Dr Kwasi Aning is calling for a stringent border security at the country’s borders which at the moment is “completely non-existent.”
