The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo has called on officers and men of the service to take proper care of facilities belonging to the Ghana Navy to ensure its sustainability longevity.

“The military high command would continue to prompt government to provide the needed equipment needed by the Navy to accomplish their duties and yours is to handle public property with the needed care and try to adopt a maintenance-conscious attitude”, he stressed.

Rear Admiral Faidoo, gave the advice at the 2017 annual West African Security Services Association (WASSA) by the Ghana Navy held at the Sekondi Naval Base.

The WASSA, is celebrated by the various security services: Army, the Navy, the Air Force and Police which brings together family members to eat, drink and make merry.

He was grateful to the officers and men of the Western Naval Command at the Sekondi Naval Base in the Western Region for exhibiting professionalism in the discharge of their duties despite the limited resources at their disposal.

He noted that despite the numerous problems, the Western Naval Command has for the past years performed its constitutional duties, including international peace support operations to the admiration of many in the maritime industry.

“On the operational front, the Command chalked some successes as it was able to fulfil all its operational responsibilities by ensuring that ships were put to sea”.

He described the Western Naval Base as the largest in the country and said though the government was doing everything for the command to meet its needs, it still had some challenges.

“The challenges have been persistently communicated to government and the High Command has been assured that they would be addressed, that notwithstanding, in our own capacity, all efforts are being made to deal with some of these challenges in order to improve our operational efficiency”, he added.

He expressed his appreciation to family members of all military officers for their understanding and support to their spouses in the military and urged them to keep up the good behaviour and continue to ensure discipline in all aspects of their lives.

“As you are all aware the Base has numerous civilian activities ongoing and I am happy to say that there had not been any recorded incidents of unruly behaviour and confrontation from personnel towards our civilian partners and friends”, he noted.

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the Western Naval Command, Commodore Isaac Osei-Kuffuor said 2017 was a busy year for the Command with series of activities including the Administrative Inspection of the Command by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).

He challenge personnel in the Command to remain resolute and resolve to build the needed ‘espirit de corps ‘ which was very important in their line of duty.

Earlier, the command donated assorted food items to the Sekondi School for the Deaf.
