Zongos require special consideration for development because of the deprivation and underdevelopment of the people living in those areas across the country, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.
“We have insisted that the Zongos require special consideration from our development initiatives, because of the deprivation and underdevelopment that have characterised the lives of the peoples of the Zongos. It is not something that a healthy society can tolerate, and it’s important that affirmative action, of the sort, is taken to address the needs of the Zongos,” Nana Akufo-Addo said on Tuesday, 2 January, 2018 at the Flagstaff House when he assented to the Zongo Development Bill.
The establishment of the Zongo Development Fund was a key campaign promise of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2016 election.
The fund is meant to help develop highly densely populated Muslim communities, otherwise known as Zongos, across the country.
