Former President Jerry John Rawlings has responded to former Deputy Trades and Industry Minister in the erstwhile Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (ND) government, Murtala Mohammed who had on several occasions called on him to condemn the spate of corruption in the current government.

“Some latter-day party officials have now made it their chores to denigrate me for speaking loudly and forcefully about the wrongs in the NDC when the party was in power”, founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings bemoaned.

“I cannot lay claim to the position of party founder and spend time criticizing another party or institution when my house is burning”, the former President responded to the likes of Murtala Mohammed calling on him to speak to corruption allegations in the Akufo-Addo led government.

The former lawmaker for Nanton Constituency had pressured the NDC founder, his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and Martin Amidu, a former Attorney General to condemn the spate of corruption among current government officials if they seek to be fair in the attacks on the NDC while it was in office

“Where is Rawlings, Nana Konadu, and Martin Amidu? Where are they…the same way they condemned the scandals in the National Democratic Congress government, I expect them to come out in the same way and talk…he (Rawlings) needs to speak up,” he fumed earlier during a radio discussion.

However, speaking at the 36th anniversary of 31st December 1981 revolution in Ho on Sunday, the former President said: “removing the log in my eye is the only way to legitimize any right to expose the speck in another’s”.
