{"id":447026,"date":"2017-12-14T12:00:35","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T12:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/12\/14\/igp-must-arrest-loose-tongued-amaliba-gba-must-sanction-him-wontumi\/"},"modified":"2017-12-14T12:00:35","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T12:00:35","slug":"igp-must-arrest-loose-tongued-amaliba-gba-must-sanction-him-wontumi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/12\/14\/igp-must-arrest-loose-tongued-amaliba-gba-must-sanction-him-wontumi\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP must arrest loose-tongued Amaliba; GBA must sanction him &#8211; Wontumi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Amaliba-Wontumi-2-475x267.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"> <\/aside>\n<p>New Patriotic Party(NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi has urged the Inspector General of Police(IGP) to cause the arrest of lawyer and Member of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, for threatening that Ghana will burn if the Electoral Commission(EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Osei is removed from office.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Amaliba has threatened that the peace that the country has enjoyed will be terribly disturbed if the Akufo Addo led-government does not stop using the system to harass the EC Boss.<\/p>\n<p>The embattled EC Chairperson is expected to answer for six allegations out of the 27 accusations leveled against her by her two deputies Amadu Sulley (in charge of Operations), and Georgina Amankwa (in charge of Corporate Services).<\/p>\n<p>This follows her appearing before the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court on Monday, December 11, after the President forwarded a petition by Forson Ampofoh and Godsway Dzado, both drivers at the EC office for her impeachment in relation to alleged corruption and mismanagement.<\/p>\n<p>The two deputies are to also answer for their alleged roles in the disappearance of some GHS480,000 from the EC\u2019s Endowment Fund, among other allegations.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the development, Lawyer Amaliba found everything wrong with the EC Boss not having a copy with the petition when such serious allegations have been made against her.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201c\u2026What has the woman done? She has declared election results in your favour and so what again do they want from her that they are using the process to harass her?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhere are the CDDs? Where are the Occupy Ghanas? If it were to be the NDC government all these people would be speaking by now. Where is Emile Short? Where is Professor Martey? This country will burn and we will see where all of us will be and so they should continue doing it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But commenting on Lawyer Amaliba\u2019s outburst, Chairman Wontumi said such reckless statement from someone who knows the law has the potential of plunging the country into chaos and must not the least be countenanced.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThe IGP must not waste time in arresting Amaliba for him to explain himself. He\u2019s a lawyer, he knows the law and should not be speaking foolishly. When Hon. Ken Agyapong made a statement that was considered problematic he was arrested, I was also arrested for pronouncements I made, why can\u2019t same be applied to Amaliba.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I appeal to the Ghana Bar Association to reprimand Amaliba. As a lawyer, he should be the first to uphold the law and not be preaching violence. Recently, some lawyers were suspended, Amaliba\u2019s comments must not be taken lightly.
