The Minority in Parliament has charged government to immediately halt its attempt to force the second deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana out of his post.<\/p>\n

Media reports are rife that Dr. Johnson Asiama who was appointed into office during the tenure of former President John Mahama has taken his accumulated leave and will not return to the job.<\/p>\n

Even though he has personally denied leaving the job, reports suggest he may leave before the year ends. His tenure at the bank ends in April 2020.<\/p>\n

The move to get Dr. Asiama to abdicate his position comes after his boss Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku left the top job months after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the development, the deputy Minority leader James Klutse Avedzi expressed worry that the government\u2019s move may end up affecting confidence in the banking sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are professionals in their own field doing their work so I think we should allow them,\u201d he stated in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM.<\/p>\n

Asked if parliament can step in to salvage Dr. Asiama from being kicked out unceremoniously, the Ketu North Member of Parliament said there is nothing the legislature could do.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this government is bent on removing him, definitely they will do it,\u201d he said advising, however, in other to save tax payers\u2019 money the government should rethink their decision and allow Dr. Asiama to work unhindered until his tenure ends.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen the government can change and put another person\u2026,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Ernest Addison has dismissed media reports that his second deputy governor has resigned.<\/p>\n

According to him, Dr. Asiama is still at post at the Bank of Ghana.<\/p>\n

Interacting with some selected media personnel at a Press Soiree in Accra Tuesday, Dr. Addison said \u201cThere are reports that my second deputy governor has resigned; he is on leave, he is on leave\u201d.<\/p>\n
