{"id":440306,"date":"2017-11-23T12:58:03","date_gmt":"2017-11-23T12:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/11\/23\/karpowership-to-be-relocated-to-western-enclave\/"},"modified":"2017-11-23T12:58:03","modified_gmt":"2017-11-23T12:58:03","slug":"karpowership-to-be-relocated-to-western-enclave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/11\/23\/karpowership-to-be-relocated-to-western-enclave\/","title":{"rendered":"Karpowership to be relocated to Western enclave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Karpower.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"> <\/aside>\n<p>Barring any unforeseeable challenge, the Karpowership which produces 450 MW of power to Ghana\u2019s energy mix will soon be relocated to Western enclave at Atuabo in the Western Region to feed on gas supply from Sankofa and TEIN fields.<\/p>\n<p>The power ship, kasapafmonline.com understands, will precisely be positioned at the Sankofa Field where the West African country is expecting millions of cubic feet indiginous gas from such field together with that of the TEIN field.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Energy, Boakye Agyarko, Thursday, told Parliament that the idea to relocate the Karpowership is to reduce the cost of power production by about 20% which will ultimately translate into lower tariff for consumers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to that, it will curb any eventuality of stranded gas in the West.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cKarpowership 450 has been anchored at Tema as a transitory measure. Works are proceeding on the gas delivery from the TEIN and Sankofa fields to the Western Conclave. From the economics of power generation, we seem it necessary to move the Karpowership currently on heavy fuel to the Western Conclave for a number of reasons. 180 million cubic feet of gas will come from Sankofa and the idea is to move Karpowership from Team to Sankofa in the Western Conclave to absorb 90million cubic feet of gas for production so that we do not find ourselves in any situation where there will be stranded gas in the West.
