{"id":433149,"date":"2017-11-01T18:59:10","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T18:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/11\/01\/mobile-money-transactions-reach-gh%c2%a2109-billion-bog\/"},"modified":"2017-11-01T18:59:10","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T18:59:10","slug":"mobile-money-transactions-reach-gh%c2%a2109-billion-bog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/11\/01\/mobile-money-transactions-reach-gh%c2%a2109-billion-bog\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobile Money transactions reach GH\u00a2109 billion &#8211; BoG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<!-- Ends 3rd Nov 2017 --><\/p>\n<p>The total value of mobile money transactions by users of the service at the end of September this year reached GH\u00a2109 billion cedis.<\/p>\n<p>This represents a 112 percent growth over the GH\u00a251.4 billion cedis recorded from January to September in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>These numbers were contained in a Bank of Ghana (BoG) data covering Mobile Money Transactions for this year seen by JoyBusiness.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline.com_InArticle_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Balance on a float, which is the total cash or amount brought into the vaults of banks by mobile money reached GH\u00a22.1 billion, up from GH\u00a2845 million for the same period in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The data puts active mobile money subscribers at 10.5 million, however, those that have registered with the service stood at 22 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Active agents have also seen some significant increase with a population of over 140,000. The total number of voice subscription as at September stands at 37 million according to the data.<\/p>\n<p><b>Impact on the financial sector<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For some analysts, the development can be described as interesting because of the result that the mobile money business is currently generating.<\/p>\n<p>Others have also argued that it could be a useful vehicle to mop excess money in circulation to reach those who are outside the banking system.<\/p>\n<p>Yet again another school of thought\u00a0are of the view that it could help the Central Bank\u00a0in its monetary transition mechanism by bringing more people into the Banking system.<\/p>\n<p><b>Better regulation\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There are calls for more regulation of the sector\u00a0following recent reports of mobile money fraud.
