<\/a><\/div>\nMember of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, says the interdiction of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education Winneba (UEW), Prof. Mawutor Avoke and five other top officials is not enough punishment.<\/p>\n
He said they should be imprisoned to serve as deterrent to other officials involved in corrupt practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese criminals after embezzling money have the right to go to court and get hearing. They should just wait for what I\u2019m preparing for them. In fact, these 6 people should be imprisoned forever\u201d he said on Net Two\u2019s morning show \u201cGhana Today\u201d Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Kennedy Agyapong\u2019s comments comes after the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mawutor Avoke and five other top officials have been asked to step aside as investigations into alleged malfeasance continue.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by the Chairman of the university\u2019s governing council Prof. Emmanuel Abakah said the interdictions are necessary to avoid the tampering of evidence.<\/p>\n
The statement claimed vital documents have vanished \u201cat the dead of the night\u201d and that there is a \u201cstrong signal\u201d, a \u201chigh tendency\u201d that this could compromise the integrity of investigations.<\/p>\n
The Vice-Chancellor and the Finance Officer are a subject of three investigations \u2013 Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the university\u2019s fact-finding committee.<\/p>\n
They have been accused of \u201cmalfeasance in the various procurement and contract awards\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Vice-Chancellor and Finance Officer had already been ordered by the Winneba High Court last July to hand over to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor until a case brought before it is determined.<\/p>\n
But the outspoken MP who claims to have vital evidence to prove that indeed the Vice-Chancellor and his cohorts are corrupt indicated that he is heading to EOCO to present the documents to them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have credible documents, I will make sure I take it to EOCO to investigate the matter which I know will land them in jail\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mr Kennedy Agyapong however called on all students of the university to rise up and demonstrate against UTAG who he claims are being used by the Vice Chancellor.<\/p>\n
According to him, refusal of the students to protest the matter will force him to incite them against the officials of the university.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese interdicted criminals are using the NDC lecturers in UTAG to intimidate the students and so I call on all the students to demonstrate against them so we get the justice we want. They need to pay back the money they have stolen from the students.<\/p>\n
