{"id":429883,"date":"2017-10-18T14:00:28","date_gmt":"2017-10-18T14:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/10\/18\/trump-denies-insensitive-remarks-to-soldiers-widow\/"},"modified":"2017-10-18T14:00:28","modified_gmt":"2017-10-18T14:00:28","slug":"trump-denies-insensitive-remarks-to-soldiers-widow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/10\/18\/trump-denies-insensitive-remarks-to-soldiers-widow\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump denies \u2018insensitive\u2019 remarks to soldier\u2019s widow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>US President Donald Trump has said a lawmaker\u2019s claim he made a soldier\u2019s widow cry is \u201ctotally fabricated\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Congresswoman Frederica Wilson said she was shocked by the president\u2019s comments to the bereaved wife of a fallen soldier.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic lawmaker claimed he told the widow: \u201cHe knew what he was signing up for, but I guess it hurts anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sgt La David Johnson was among four US special service troops killed in Niger by Islamist militants this month.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump has already been criticised for not contacting the families of the dead servicemen right after the fatal ambush on 4 October.<\/p>\n<p>The president tweeted on Wednesday morning: \u201cDemocrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump did not immediately provide the evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Wilson, who represents a Florida district, told CNN that the president\u2019s call was made shortly before Sgt Johnson\u2019s coffin arrived in Miami.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis gentleman has a brain disorder,\u201d said the lawmaker, \u201cand he needs to be checked out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Wilson told WPLG, a Miami TV station, she heard the president\u2019s \u201cso insensitive\u201d remarks to the widow on speakerphone in a limousine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, he [President Trump] said that,\u201d Ms Wilson said. \u201cTo me, that is something that you can say in a conversation, but you shouldn\u2019t say that to a grieving widow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd everyone knows when you go to war, you could possibly not come back alive.
