But if you take your product outside Africa, you achieve both geographic and business competitiveness,\u201d Babu added.<\/p>\n<p>To enhance agribusiness competitiveness, countries should identify successful models of public-private partnerships (PPP) and business to business (B2B) alliances to raise value chain competitiveness and scale, in addition to encouraging entrepreneurship, access to capital and building stronger market linkages.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda and Kenya rank \u201chigh\u201d on the agribusiness competitiveness and agricultural productivity scales, but \u201clow\u201d on food security, highlighting how policies in these countries have failed to utilize gains from trade to deliver food security to their populations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite tremendous progress improving food security in Rwanda and Kenya, both countries need stronger policy interventions to improve the allocation of resources and improve general welfare,\u201d said Babu.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/8205833402100_356755896419.jpg\" style=\"border-style:solid; border-width:5px; height:388px; width:600px\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"1786758486\" onload=\"pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seven countries \u2013 Guinea, Niger, Bukrina Faso, Burundi, DRC, Nigeria, Togo &#8212; rank \u201clow\u201d on food security and agribusiness competitiveness, while South Africa ranks \u201chigh\u201d on both parameters.<\/p>\n<p>Countries such as Botswana, Tunisia, Ghana, Uganda and Algeria, which rank \u201cmedium\u201d on food security and agribusiness competitiveness, hold immense potential to improve their competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese countries can transform agriculture sector by increasing mechanization and commercialization, and can strategically decide on the composition of crops to improve food security and competitiveness,\u201d said Babu.<\/p>\n<p>On the agribusiness competitiveness and agricultural productivity scale, 11 countries\u2014Seychelles, Zimbabwe, Sao Tome and Principe, Liberia, Guinea, Burundi, Algeria, Chad, Djibouti, Mauritania and DRC\u2014ranked \u201clow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncreases in agricultural productivity must come from intensification rather than exploitation of additional natural resources,\u201d said Babu. \u201cWe can draw lessons from China, which created scores of research and design institutes and universities focusing on agricultural innovation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/3737765026278_5411078084001.jpg\" style=\"border-style:solid; border-width:5px; height:388px; width:600px\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"1311925518\" onload=\"pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The report also recommends policy lessons for countries for enhancing agribusiness competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>A competitive agribusiness sector is one characterized by efficient land markets, efficient management of agriculture risks, technology adoption and innovation, sustainable management of natural resources, efficient institutions, effective infrastructure, conducive economic environment, investment in health and education and wide market access.<\/p>\n<p>This analysis was developed using WEF\u2019s Global Competitiveness Index, the Ballasa index for agricultural competitiveness, Doing Business Indicator and Global Food Security Index (Economist Group).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family:arial,sans-serif\">Read the full report here:\u00a0<\/span>http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/23322373.2017.1319721<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Strategic investments can help unlock potential for agribusiness growth in African nations with low agribusiness competitiveness, food security and agricultural productivity, according to recent\u00a0analysis on African agribusiness competitiveness\u00a0by Dr. Suresh Babu.
