{"id":415263,"date":"2017-09-06T12:04:07","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T12:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/09\/06\/imf-programme-extension-is-in-ghanas-best-interest-civil-society-platform\/"},"modified":"2017-09-06T12:04:07","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T12:04:07","slug":"imf-programme-extension-is-in-ghanas-best-interest-civil-society-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/09\/06\/imf-programme-extension-is-in-ghanas-best-interest-civil-society-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF programme extension is in Ghana&#8217;s best interest &#8211; Civil Society Platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Civil Society Platform has commended government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for extending country\u2019s program with the Fund.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement issued by the platform, the programme extension is in the best interest of the country, as it will \u201cafford government time to work towards attaining the overall programme objectives of restoring debt sustainability and macroeconomic stability as well as foster a return to high growth and job creation, while protecting social spending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Admittedly, \u201cthe programme extension in itself will not translate into successful completion unless the Government is committed to fiscal discipline and good governance\u201d the civil society group for the IMF added.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline.com_InArticle_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbove all, we believe effective implementation of the current arrangement with the IMF will strengthen the country\u2019s own institutions of fiscal restraint, regain policy credibility as well as chart new sustainable pathways so that Ghana, hopefully, will no longer revert to the IMF for another Fund-supported programme,\u201d the Fund noted.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/5408337586093_6030818346059.jpg\" style=\"border-style:solid; border-width:5px; height:330px; width:472px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The IMF is a statement, last week noted that \u201cthe Board approved Ghana\u2019s request for waivers of non-observance of performance criteria, and modification of one performance criterion; and the extension of the arrangement by one year\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This was after the Board completed the fourth review of the arrangement under the Extended Credit Facility.<\/p>\n<p>This enabled the disbursement of SDR 66.42 million (about US$94.2 million), bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to SDR 398.52 million (about US$565.2 million), with the remainder being tied to the remaining reviews.<\/p>\n<p>The Board also approved Ghana\u2019s request for waivers of non-observance of performance criteria, and modification of one performance criterion; and the extension of the arrangement by one year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Civil Society Platform has commended government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for extending country\u2019s program with the Fund.
