{"id":413323,"date":"2017-09-01T10:18:04","date_gmt":"2017-09-01T10:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/09\/01\/us-hands-out-first-contracts-for-border-wall-prototypes\/"},"modified":"2017-09-01T10:18:04","modified_gmt":"2017-09-01T10:18:04","slug":"us-hands-out-first-contracts-for-border-wall-prototypes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/09\/01\/us-hands-out-first-contracts-for-border-wall-prototypes\/","title":{"rendered":"US hands out first contracts for border wall prototypes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"> <\/aside>\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Four companies have been chosen to build prototypes for Donald Trump\u2019s planned border wall, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.<\/p>\n<p>The four concrete prototypes will be 30ft (9m) long and up to 30ft tall, and will be built in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>Officials will then spend up to two months testing the walls for tampering and penetration resistance using small hand tools, CBP said.<\/p>\n<p>The four contracts are worth up to $500,000 (\u00a3387,000) each.<\/p>\n<p>A continuous wall across the entire southern US border was a key promise in President Trump\u2019s election campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The prototypes \u201cwill help us refine the design standards\u201d of the eventual wall, acting CBP deputy commissioner Ronald Vitiello said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTesting will look at things like the aesthetics of it, how penetrable they are, how resistant they are to tampering, and scaling or anti-climb features.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But he said the officials would stick to small hand tools rather than testing \u201cballistic kind of things\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The walls will also need to feature cable conduits and other design features for sensors and cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Once the order to start building is given in the next few weeks, the prototypes are expected to be finished within 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>The four companies to which the contracts were awarded are:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Caddell Construction, in Montgomery, Alabama<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Fisher Industries in Tempe, Arizona<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Texas Sterling Construction in Houston, Texas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">WG Yates &amp; Sons Construction in Philadelphia, Mississippi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mr Vitiello said he did not know if any of the firms had had prior experience in border wall construction.<\/p>\n<p>More than 200 companies are believed to have submitted designs for the proposed border wall.<\/p>\n<p>Four more contracts for prototypes made from materials other than concrete will be announced next week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four companies have been chosen to build prototypes for Donald Trump\u2019s planned border wall, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.
