{"id":412780,"date":"2017-08-28T07:03:59","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T07:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/08\/28\/uber-names-expedia-boss-dara-khosrowshahi-as-ceo\/"},"modified":"2017-08-28T07:03:59","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T07:03:59","slug":"uber-names-expedia-boss-dara-khosrowshahi-as-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/08\/28\/uber-names-expedia-boss-dara-khosrowshahi-as-ceo\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber names Expedia boss Dara Khosrowshahi as CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div> <\/aside>\n<p>Uber has chosen Expedia boss Dara Khosrowshahi to be its chief executive, ending months of speculation in the firm\u2019s search for a new leader.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made by Uber\u2019s board late on Sunday, a source told the BBC, but the company has made no official announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Khosrowshahi would replace Travis Kalanick, who resigned in June following pressure from shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>The firm is battling to repair its image after a series of scandals.<\/p>\n<p>Several big names \u2013 including Hewlett Packard boss Meg Whitman and General Electric chairman Jeff Immelt \u2013 had been touted for the role.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Immelt\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-41068928\"><strong>ruled himself out of the race<\/strong>\u00a0over the weekend, while reports intensified that Ms Whitman was the most likely successor despite her saying she was not interested in the job either.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: inherit;\">Corporate image<\/h2>\n<p>Mr Kalanick bowed to\u00a0<strong>pressure from shareholders<\/strong>\u00a0in the San Francisco-based firm and stood down in June.<\/p>\n<p>His resignation came after months of turmoil at the firm, including a series of controversies about sexual harassment, macho culture and the departure of senior executives.<\/p>\n<p>Uber\u2019s board has been meeting daily and was deliberating on its pick for a new leader over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the company declined to comment on the appointment and there has been no comment from Mr Khosrowshahi.<\/p>\n<p>He has been chief executive of online travel firm Expedia from 2005.<\/p>\n<p>If he takes the Uber job, he would have a steep task ahead of him.
