{"id":412594,"date":"2017-08-24T17:42:34","date_gmt":"2017-08-24T17:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/08\/24\/ec-cited-in-falsification-of-gh%e2%82%b5223m-debt\/"},"modified":"2017-08-24T17:42:34","modified_gmt":"2017-08-24T17:42:34","slug":"ec-cited-in-falsification-of-gh%e2%82%b5223m-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/08\/24\/ec-cited-in-falsification-of-gh%e2%82%b5223m-debt\/","title":{"rendered":"EC cited in falsification of GH\u20b5223m debt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/CHARLOTTE5-01-475x267.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\">&#13;<br \/>\n                <\/aside>\n<p><!-- Share buttons by mashshare.net - Version: 3.4.4--><\/p>\n<p>Even before the Auditor-General completes its audited report on the public accounts of Ghana \u2013 Public Boards, Corporations and other statutory institutions for the year ended December 31, 2016, the Electoral Commission (EC) has been slapped with some serious questions to answer.<\/p>\n<p>The draft report has cited the Commission for falsifying their GH\u20b5223million debt owed contractors, vendors, suppliers and election officials who assisted in the conduct of the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission, <em><strong>Kasapafmonline.com<\/strong> <\/em>understands demanded GH\u20b5223,000,751 from the Finance Ministry as outstanding payments for the 2016 when initial findings by the Audit Service indicate that the Government does not owe GH<em>\u20b5<\/em>223million as falsely claimed by the EC.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur audit further revealed that even though, the GH\u20b5223million owed to contractors, vendors, suppliers and election officials were paid between November and December 2016, the amount was still submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Parliament in February and March 2017 respectively as outstanding liabilities. Details of the payments made with their corresponding dates are provided \u2026\u201d, aspect of the draft audit report the Auditor-General as saying.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Same amount was also represented to Parliament in their budget estimates for the year ending December 31, 2017 as outstanding arrears yet to be paid.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOut of an amount of GH\u20b51,093,000,751 required for election related expenses, only GH\u20b5870,000,000 was released to the Commission, leaving a funding gap of GH\u20b5223,000,751.
