{"id":411951,"date":"2017-08-16T08:30:38","date_gmt":"2017-08-16T08:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/08\/16\/hiv-testing-now-compulsory\/"},"modified":"2017-08-16T08:30:38","modified_gmt":"2017-08-16T08:30:38","slug":"hiv-testing-now-compulsory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/08\/16\/hiv-testing-now-compulsory\/","title":{"rendered":"HIV testing now compulsory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\">&#13;<br \/>\n                <\/aside>\n<p><!-- Share buttons by mashshare.net - Version: 3.4.4--><\/p>\n<p>The President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu has announced that testing for HIV is now compulsory in that country.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr. Lungu, testing, counselling and treatment for HIV which used to be voluntary, are now a must for every citizen as the country struggles to address the high prevalence rate in Zambia.<\/p>\n<p>Zambia\u2019s National HIV Council revealed that the country has one of the highest prevalence rates in southern Africa with 11.6% of Zambian adults aged between 15 and 49 years being HIV positive.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Lungu is hoping this new directive will enable his country to be Aids-free by the year 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must admit that there were some colleagues who felt that this policy would infringe on human rights but no one has the right take away somebody\u2019s life\u201d, President Lungu said when he launched the inaugural national HIV and Aids Counselling, Testing and Treatment day in the capital, Lusaka.<\/p>\n<p>Lungu further said that: \u201cJust the same way we don\u2019t consult you for consent when we are testing for malaria, we will go ahead and test you for HIV and we will counsel you and if you are positive, we will commence you on treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNAIDS do not back compulsory counselling and testing.<\/p>\n<p>The Zambia government said the country cannot eliminate the disease if people have to fall sick before going for treatment to save their lives.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#13; The President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu has announced that testing for HIV is now compulsory in that country.
