{"id":406424,"date":"2017-07-28T14:38:05","date_gmt":"2017-07-28T14:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/07\/28\/mtn-to-swing-back-into-profit\/"},"modified":"2017-07-28T14:38:05","modified_gmt":"2017-07-28T14:38:05","slug":"mtn-to-swing-back-into-profit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/07\/28\/mtn-to-swing-back-into-profit\/","title":{"rendered":"MTN to swing back into profit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>MTN expects to swing back into profit in the first half of its financial year after a $1.1 billion\u00a0fine paid in the previous reporting period weighed on margins, the company said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Africa&#8217;s biggest wireless network group expects headline earnings per share (HEPS) to be between 210 cents and 230 cents for the six months ended 30 June 2017 compared to a headline loss per share of 271 cents in prior comparable period.<\/p>\n<p>HEPS is the main profit measure used in South Africa that strips out once off items.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline.com_InArticle_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The negative performance in the prior comparable period was mainly as a result of non-recurring costs, including the Nigeria regulatory fine of 474 cents per share,&#8221; the company said.<\/p>\n<p>MTN agreed to pay the fine, which was reduced from $5.2 billion, in June last year after a prolonged legal battle to end a dispute in Nigeria over missing a deadline to cut off unregistered SIM cards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fine claimed by Nigeria, MTN&#8217;s most lucrative but increasingly problematic market, wiped $814.67 million\u00a0from 2016 earnings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MTN expects to swing back into profit in the first half of its financial year after a $1.1 billion\u00a0fine paid in the previous reporting period weighed on margins, the company said on Thursday.
