stake in a keynote speech in the Polish capital Warsaw.<\/p>\n<p>Holding up Poland as an example of a country ready to defend Western freedoms, he will warn against the threats of \u201cterrorism and extremism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Poland\u2019s conservative government shares Mr Trump\u2019s hostile view of immigration and strong sense of sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump is in Poland ahead of a G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause as the Polish experience reminds us \u2013 the defence of the West ultimately rests not only on means but also on the will of its people to prevail,\u201d Mr Trump will say, according to excerpts released from the speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">What else will Trump say in the speech?<\/h2>\n<p>Appearing on a stage at the monument to the 1944 Warsaw Uprising on Warsaw\u2019s historic Krasinski Square, Mr Trump will also reaffirm US support for Eastern Europe ahead of his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Hamburg, the BBC\u2019s James Landale in Warsaw reports.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Putin called for an end to sanctions against Russia as well as trade protectionism in an editorial published in German newspaper Handelsblatt.<\/p>\n<p>In another part of his speech, Mr Trump will also make a strong attack on red tape, condemning \u201cthe steady creep of government bureaucracy that drains the vitality and wealth of the people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Giving a news conference hours before the speech, Mr Trump:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Called on countries to demonstrate to North Korea that there were consequences for its \u201cvery bad behaviour\u201d and said \u201csomething will have to be done about it\u201d<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Said America\u2019s \u201cstrong alliance with Poland and Nato\u201d remained \u201ccritical to deterring conflict\u201d<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Accused Russia of \u201cdestabilising behaviour\u201d but, when asked if Russia had meddled in the US presidential election, replied, \u201cNobody really knows for sure\u201d<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Said in reference to Syria that \u201cany nation which values human life can never tolerate the use of chemical weapons\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">American gas for Europe?<\/h2>\n<p>Mr Trump gave the news conference at Warsaw\u2019s Royal Castle alongside Polish President Andrzej Duda after attending a summit of 12 nations with interests in the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black Sea \u2013 the \u201cThree Seas\u201d summit.<\/p>\n<p>The Polish government is trying to become less energy-dependent on Russia, and last month the first ever US liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Commending American LNG, Mr Trump told the news conference: \u201cYou can never be held hostage to a single supplier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A global glut in supply, however, has depressed prices and made it difficult for LNG exporters to turn a profit, Adam Sieminski, an energy analyst with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n<p>Warsaw and three Baltic states have spoken against the construction of an offshore Russian gas pipeline to Germany, known as Nord Stream 2.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">How big is Trump\u2019s visit for Poland?<\/h2>\n<p>Disappointingly perhaps for Mr Trump and his Polish hosts only a small crowd turned out in the sunshine to greet him at the Royal Castle, the BBC\u2019s Adam Easton reports.<\/p>\n<p>He entered through the back door so those that did come did not even catch a glimpse of him.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Duda said earlier that Mr Trump\u2019s visit showed Poland was a \u201ccountry that matters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Poland has been at odds with some other EU states over its\u00a0refusal to accept refugees\u00a0under a 2015 solidarity plan.<\/p>\n<p>A warm reception in Warsaw may benefit Mr Trump\u2019s image with Americans after his earlier visit to Europe in May, Piotr Buras of the European Council on Foreign Relations, told AFP news agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter his disastrous trip to Brussels and Taormina, friendly pictures with European leaders and cheering crowds at his public speech could help Trump repair his image at home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Polish branch of Greenpeace is using Mr Trump\u2019s visit to Warsaw to protest against his decision to pull the US out of the Paris climate agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The words \u201cNo Trump Yes Paris\u201d were projected in huge green letters on the city\u2019s Palace of Culture and Science on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Will the G20 go smoothly?<\/h2>\n<p>Later on Thursday, the US leader will travel to Hamburg for what could be a potentially fractious summit.<\/p>\n<p>He has fallen out\u00a0with some EU nations over climate change\u00a0and trade.\u00a0UK Prime Minister Theresa May will challenge him over climate change,\u00a0saying an international agreement on the issue should not be renegotiated.<\/p>\n<p>Aid organisations are expected to hold demonstrations in Hamburg urging the heads of government to do more to tackle inequality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important because you have the biggest meeting of all of the leading rulers of the main countries in the world \u2013 the G20 \u2013 and I don\u2019t like some of the politics that they\u2019re doing, especially that of [Recep Tayyip] Erdogan, of Putin and of Trump,\u201d one protester told the
