{"id":396908,"date":"2017-06-28T09:51:14","date_gmt":"2017-06-28T09:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/06\/28\/go-and-champion-gay-rights-elsewhere-not-in-tanzania-government-warns\/"},"modified":"2017-06-28T09:51:14","modified_gmt":"2017-06-28T09:51:14","slug":"go-and-champion-gay-rights-elsewhere-not-in-tanzania-government-warns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/06\/28\/go-and-champion-gay-rights-elsewhere-not-in-tanzania-government-warns\/","title":{"rendered":"Go and champion gay rights elsewhere, not in Tanzania \u2013 Government warns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"273\" height=\"185\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ximages-1-3.jpg.pagespeed.ic.mnqRPpYDM3.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"images (1)\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">gay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tanzania has threatened to arrest and expel activists, as well as deregister all non-governmental organisations that campaign for gay rights.<\/p>\n<p>Homosexuality is a criminal offence in the East African nation, where the law states that suspects convicted of having \u201ccarnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature\u201d could face up to 30 years in jail.<\/p>\n<p>At a rally late on Sunday, Tanzania\u2019s Home Affairs Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said both domestic and foreign campaigners for gay rights would now face punitive measures in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who want to campaign for gay rights should find another country that allows those things,\u201d Nchemba said in the capital Dodoma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we establish that any organisation registered in our country is campaigning for gay rights \u2026 I will deregister that organisation. If a Tanzanian national is doing that campaign, we will arrest him and take him to court \u2026 and if it is a foreigner, we will immediately order him to leave the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The planned crackdown comes amid repeated warnings against \u201cimmoral behaviours\u201d by President John Magufuli, who is nicknamed \u201cthe Bulldozer\u201d for pushing through his policies.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, he rejected calls to lift the decades-long ban on pregnant students from attending state schools, drawing criticism from rights groups.<\/p>\n<p>Nchemba said Magufuli\u2019s decisions were final and non-negotiable.<\/p>\n<p>Since his ascent to power in 2015, Magufuli has been praised by some Western donors for his bid to stamp out corruption and cut wasteful government spending.<\/p>\n<p>Opponents, however, accuse him of becoming increasingly authoritarian by curbing political activity and cracking down on dissent.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a style=\"display:none\" rel=\"follow\" href=\"http:\/\/megatheme.ir\/\" title=\"\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633\">\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0628 \u0648\u0631\u062f\u067e\u0631\u0633<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>gay Tanzania has threatened to arrest and expel activists, as well as deregister all non-governmental organisations that campaign for gay rights.
