after the Crown Estate\u2019s profits rose by \u00a324m.<\/p>\n<p>The Sovereign Grant, which pays for the salaries of her household, official travel and upkeep of palaces, is to increase by more than \u00a36m in 2018\/19.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as accounts revealed the Queen\u2019s official net expenditure last year increased by \u00a32m, to almost \u00a342m.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Alan Reid, Keeper of the Privy Purse, said the Queen represented \u201cexcellent value for money\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cWhen you look at these accounts, the bottom line is the Sovereign Grant last year equated to 65p per person, per annum, in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the price of a first class stamp.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsider that against what the Queen does and represents for this country, I believe it represents excellent value for money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Queen and the Royal Family\u2019s official travel cost the taxpayer \u00a34.5m during 2016\/17, up \u00a3500,000.<\/p>\n<p>Clarence House has also released its annual accounts, which showed the Prince of Wales\u2019 annual income from his hereditary estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, increased by 1.2% \u2013 to \u00a320.7m.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Royal accounts \u2013 some key figures<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">\u00a382.2m \u2013 Amount the Queen is expected to get from the Sovereign Grant in 2018\/2019<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">\u00a34.5m \u2013 Cost of the Queen and the Royal Family\u2019s official travel<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">\u00a3288,697 \u2013 Amount spent on the Royal Train travel for 14 trips<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">\u00a31.2m \u2013 Cost of replacing doors on the orangery at Windsor Castle<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">\u00a3154,000 \u2013 Estimated cost of Prince Charles and Camilla using \u201cCam Force One\u201d \u2013 the official government plane \u2013 to visit Italy, Romania and Austria<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"story-body__line\"\/>\n<p>The Sovereign Grant, which is paid two years in arrears, is money given to the Queen by the Treasury.<\/p>\n<p>It is based on the profits of the Crown Estate portfolio, which includes much of London\u2019s West End.<\/p>\n<p>The Crown Estate posted a \u00a324.7m rise in profits, to \u00a3328.8m, in 2016\/17.<\/p>\n<p>Republic, which campaigns for an elected head of state, published its own report on royal expenses.<\/p>\n<p>It said that once security and other costs were included, the annual bill for the monarchy was nearer \u00a3345m.<\/p>\n<p>Graham Smith, the organisation\u2019s chief executive, said it was a \u201cmassive bill for the taxpayer\u201d to support \u201cprivileged lifestyles\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The increase in funding will take place as extensive repairs are being carried out at Buckingham Palace, costing \u00a3369m.<\/p>\n<p>To help pay for the work at the palace, the percentage of the Crown Estate profits paid to the Queen will increase from 15% to 25% between 2017 and 2027.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">What is the Crown Estate?<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">It is an independent commercial property business and one of the largest property portfolios in the UK<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">Most of the portfolio is made up of residential property, commercial offices, shops, businesses, and retail parks<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">The estate started in 1760 when it was agreed that surplus revenue from the crown\u2019s estate would go to the Treasury and, in return, the monarch would receive an annual payment<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">The estate belongs to the monarch for the duration of their reign, but cannot be sold by them and profits go to the Treasury<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">The monarch is then given 15% of the annual surplus of the estate, known as the Sovereign Grant, to support official duties \u2013 from funds two years in arrears<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">This percentage will increase from 15% to 25% between 2017 to 2027 to help pay for a \u00a3369m refurbishment of Buckingham Palace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a
