{"id":396423,"date":"2017-06-20T15:07:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T15:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/06\/20\/constituency-level-confusion-caused-ndcs-defeat-nii-lante\/"},"modified":"2017-06-20T15:07:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T15:07:00","slug":"constituency-level-confusion-caused-ndcs-defeat-nii-lante","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/06\/20\/constituency-level-confusion-caused-ndcs-defeat-nii-lante\/","title":{"rendered":"Constituency level confusion caused NDC\u2019s defeat \u2013 Nii Lante"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><a href=\"http:\/\/adomonline.com\/ghana-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/70.jpg\" data-caption=\"Nii Lantey\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/70-696x464.jpg.pagespeed.ce.1dexaxp85H.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Nii Lantey\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"306335976\" onload=\"pagespeed.CriticalImages.checkImageForCriticality(this);\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nii Lantey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The 13-member Kwesi Botchway committee set up by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to probe the party\u2019s election 2016 defeat, cited rifts between Parliamentary candidates and constituency executives as a major failing, according to the NDC MP for Odododiodioo, Nii Lante Vanderpuye.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Mr. Vanderpuye, who was part of the committee, noted that \u201cParliamentary candidates were not working with the constituency well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Vanderpuye\u00a0also attributed the NDC\u2019s defeat in the 2016 elections to complacency\u00a0on the part of \u201ca lot of\u201d party members, including President Mahama.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing around the country and listening to some of the people, you could say complacency was one of the factors that affected us\u2026 From the local level to the top \u2013 everybody. Even the President himself was too complacent. President Mahama himself was too sure of winning so we took certain things for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Vanderpuye said \u201cthe work we did in 2012, we didn\u2019t do that much work in 2016. I must be frank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further admitted that the NDC\u2019s reliance on infrastructural development may have sent wrong signals internally.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cwe thought that as a government, we had done a lot of work. We had caused a lot of infrastructure social change and there was no reason for us to lose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you study factors that led to victories in the past, there was no way we should have lost the elections if the same factors had been at play.
