{"id":395512,"date":"2017-06-13T14:58:41","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T14:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/06\/13\/go-and-learn-from-bench-judge-hearing-suit-against-uew-slams-lawyer\/"},"modified":"2017-06-13T14:58:41","modified_gmt":"2017-06-13T14:58:41","slug":"go-and-learn-from-bench-judge-hearing-suit-against-uew-slams-lawyer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/06\/13\/go-and-learn-from-bench-judge-hearing-suit-against-uew-slams-lawyer\/","title":{"rendered":"Go and learn from bench &#8211; Judge hearing suit against UEW slams lawyer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<!--               \n\n<div class=\"in-ad\">\n\n\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1495043641385-0' style='height:250px; width:300px;'>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n              <\/div>\n\n --><\/p>\n<p>Proceedings at the Winneba High Court turned dramatic after a judge hearing a case against the University of Education, Winneba schooled a lawyer over the ethics of the profession.<\/p>\n<p>The school has been sued by a former Donkoryiem Assemblyman, Supi Kofi Kwayera over the continuous stay of its Council which mandatory four-year term expired in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had directed the Council to act pending the inauguration of a new one, but this was not done.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1002554\/Myjoyonline.com_InArticle_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p><b>Related Article: Former Assemblyman drags UEW to court over \u2018expired\u2019 Governing Council<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/7802400649576_6885525738872.jpg\" style=\"border-style:solid; border-width:5px; height:444px; width:650px\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Dissatisfied by the illegality, the former Assemblyman who describes himself as a social activist filed a suit asking the court to nullify every decision taken by the Council from 2013 to date.<\/p>\n<p>He argues the existence of the Council contravenes Section 8 of the University Act 972.<\/p>\n<p>The businessman also wants all contracts entered into by the University including a contract with Sparkxx Ghana Limited Paabadu Construction and C-Desk to be terminated.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/4840976636960_5187713234012.jpg\" style=\"border-style:solid; border-width:5px; height:479px; width:640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Defendant lawyer, Sampson Gura with counsel for businessman, Afenyo-Markin<\/b><\/p>\n<p>At the hearing Tuesday, counsel for the businessman, Alex Afenyo-Markin\u00a0filed a motion arguing the Council has no mandate to transact business on behalf of the school because its term had expired.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant\u2019s lawyer, Sampson Gura failed to file a response to Mr\u00a0Afenyo-Markin&#8217;s motion.<\/p>\n<p>A displeased Justice Ato Graves Mills shifted in his chair and took on the University\u2019s lawyer questioning him on his failure to respond appropriately to the businessman.<\/p>\n<p>Under a heavy tone, the judge told the lawyer to head to the bench to learn how things are done in the court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Proceedings at the Winneba High Court turned dramatic after a judge hearing a case against the University of Education, Winneba schooled a lawyer over the ethics of the profession.
