{"id":345595,"date":"2017-02-09T16:42:48","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T16:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/02\/09\/russian-newspaper-tells-battered-women-to-cheer-up-because-abuse-increases-chances-of-having-sons\/"},"modified":"2017-02-09T16:42:48","modified_gmt":"2017-02-09T16:42:48","slug":"russian-newspaper-tells-battered-women-to-cheer-up-because-abuse-increases-chances-of-having-sons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/02\/09\/russian-newspaper-tells-battered-women-to-cheer-up-because-abuse-increases-chances-of-having-sons\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian Newspaper Tells Battered Women to Cheer Up Because Abuse Increases Chances of Having Sons"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Russia is on the verge of decriminalizing several forms of domestic violence, despite the country\u2019s enormously high rate of abuse against women.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/domestic-violence.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for domestic violence\"\/><\/p>\n<p><!-- WP QUADS Content Ad Plugin v. 1.4.3 --><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As federal lawmakers in Moscow march ahead with this controversial initiative, one of Russia\u2019s most read newspapers, Komsomolskaya Pravda, published an article this Wednesday, citing research that supposedly suggests women with abusive partners stand a better chance of giving birth to sons \u2014 a \u201cvaluable advantage,\u201d the newspaper claimed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201c<em>For years, women who have been smacked around by their husbands have found solace in the rather hypocritical proverb, \u2018If he beats you, it means he loves you!<\/em>\u2019\u201d columnist Yaroslav Korobatov argued in Komsomolkaya Pravda. \u201c<em>However, a new scientific study is giving women with irascible husbands new grounds to be proud of their bruises, insofar as women who are beaten, biologists confirm, have a valuable advantage: they\u2019re more likely to give birth to boys!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The article refers to research by the controversial evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa, who\u2019s been denounced by many in the field as a \u201cbad scientist\u201d and a \u201cracist.\u201d He is known for arguing that African countries suffer chronic poverty because of \u201clow IQs,\u201d and for claiming that black women are \u201cobjectively less attractive\u201d than the women of other races.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In 2005, Kanazawa published an article claiming that \u201cviolent men have more sons,\u201d and three years later he followed it up with a blog post for Psychology Today, arguing that \u201cwomen may have been selected [evolutionarily] to tolerate a certain level of nonlethal violence in their mates,\u201d in order to increase the odds of bearing sons.<\/p>\n<p>In his piece for Komsomolskaya Pravda, Korobatov also cites the so-called \u201creturning soldier phenomenon,\u201d suggesting that men returning from combat in World War II ended up fathering more sons because they were \u201cs*x starved\u201d and therefore pumped full of hormones when they had intercourse with their wives, once back home.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Matched Content 1 --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0909255462614293\" data-ad-slot=\"3107445395\" data-ad-format=\"autorelaxed\"\/><br \/>\n<!-- MarketGidComposite Start --><br \/>\n<!-- MarketGidComposite End --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Russia is on the verge of decriminalizing several forms of domestic violence, despite the country\u2019s enormously high rate of abuse against women.
