{"id":344821,"date":"2017-02-06T11:24:47","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T11:24:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2017\/02\/06\/imf-to-get-tough-over-gh%c2%a27bn-expenditure-gap-economist\/"},"modified":"2017-02-06T11:24:47","modified_gmt":"2017-02-06T11:24:47","slug":"imf-to-get-tough-over-gh%c2%a27bn-expenditure-gap-economist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2017\/02\/06\/imf-to-get-tough-over-gh%c2%a27bn-expenditure-gap-economist\/","title":{"rendered":"IMF to get tough over GH\u00a27bn expenditure gap \u2013 Economist"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"medsection1\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">Business News of Monday,  6 February 2017<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>citifmonline.com<\/p>\n<p>2017-02-06<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/72159047.295.jpg\" alt=\"Ghana IMF Bailout\" title=\"Ghana IMF Bailout\" width=\"295\" height=\"172\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>file photo<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"noPrint\">\n<div id=\"537626303\" style=\"width:300;height:250;margin:0;padding:0\">\n\t\t  <noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" name=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/afr?auid=537626303&amp;cb=148603782445165\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"><a href=\"\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/rc?cs=b2ad7fa7fd&amp;cb=148603782445165\"><br \/>\n\t\t  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/1486380287_248_ai\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/iframe><\/noscript>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">Ghana risks being penalised by the IMF over the unaccounted 7 billion cedis in government\u2019s accounts.This is the assertion of Economist, Dr. Lord Mensah.<\/p>\n<p>The caution follows the visit by a team from the IMF for a review of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, there\u2019s a possibility that IMF will sanction our country because look at possible conditions where expenditure has been reduced and if expenditure has been reduced, it shows a sign of you hiding some of the true reflections of what is on the ground,\u201d Dr. Lord Mensah said.<\/p>\n<p>The review will be the first for the year and the first meeting the IMF will have with the new administration.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nVice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently stated that there is a 7 billion cedi gap in government expenditure accounts prepared by the outgone NDC administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn preparing for the Budget we realised to our shock that expenditure amounting seven billion cedis was made by the previous government but never disclosed,\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nDr Bawumia added, \u201cIn the management of any economy, there\u2019s nothing that can beat the integrity of your economic data because if you don\u2019t have data you have major problems and this is why we really need to emphasise the integrity of data.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials from the opposition party have since justified the apparent gap.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nBut Dr. Lord Mensah, who describes a review of the IMF deal as unnecessary, believes the Fund will be tough in seeking further clarity on the 7 billion cedis gap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the financial indiscipline have been hidden so if you are to expose everything you\u2019ll realise that the conditions they gave us might differ.<\/p>\n<p>That is why you were being irrational and they tried to hide information so when they come in, I think renegotiation will not be an option,\u201d he added.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nSenior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has stated that the new government will re- negotiate  Ghana\u2019s deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow the IMF program will certainly be reviewed and there are two main reasons why the IMF program must be reviewed. <\/p>\n<p>I have already hinted to one of the bosses of the IMF.
