The  National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) has terminated over 50 contracts with various suppliers engaged to provide food stuffs to second-cycle institutions under the Free SHS policy.

The company explained, that their action became necessary due to non-performance by the suppliers.

NAFCO was engaged by government to buy food produced locally for supplies to Senior High Schools, ostensibly to create ready market for local farmers.

However, the Chief Operations Officer of the Company, Arnorld Kojo Ackah told Accra-based Citi FM that they’d to re-allocate the contracts because of the under-performance of some suppliers.

“…As i speak we’ve abrogated over 50 contracts out of the over 410 contracts. The reason being that they were not able to supply on time. For us timely delivery is key. Some items can delay, but not food.” he noted.

He adds: “We agreed that anytime Buffer Stock has the evidence to abrogate a contract,  we should give the options to Heads of the schools. So as whenever we are abrogating a contract, we get in touch with the schools after we’ve proven that indeed the supplier cannot deliver and then the school puts it into writing to us and then we re-allocate the contract. And each of the schools that there was the need to abrogate we did.”
