The Ghana National Food Buffer Stock Company has abrogated over 50 contracts with various suppliers contracted to provide food to various Senior High Schools across the country under the Free SHS policy.

This is due to non-performance of the suppliers, the Chief Operations Officer of the Company, Arnold Kojo Ackah has told Citi News.

“One of the main issues that we agreed on was how to go about relocating contracts. We agreed that anytime the Buffer Stock has the evidence to abrogate a contract, we should give the option to the heads of the schools,” Mr. Ackah explained.

“Whenever we are abrogating contracts, we get in touch with the schools after we have proven the that the supplier cannot deliver, and the school puts in writing to us and we abrogate the contract.”

He stressed that the Buffer stock did not compromise when it comes to timeliness of delivery.

“As we speak, we have abrogated 50 contracts out of the over 410 contracts – the reason being that they were not able to supply on time. For us, timely delivery is key. Some items can delay but not food contracts.”

The Government engaged the Buffer Stock Company to buy food produced locally for supply to the various senior high schools in the country.

The directive was also to create a ready market for local farmers.
