Vice President Mahammudu Bawumia has reiterated Government’s commitment to developing the country’s human resource through the introduction of such social interventions as the Free Senior High School and the Zongo Development Fund. He has, thus, asked parents to take advantage of the initiatives to build a better future for their children.

“For many children in low-income and poor communities, the opportunity to go to school means everything for their future. Education is the key; and, I, therefore, encourage our parents to take advantage of the Free SHS programme of the government to enroll our children at the basic school to enable them progress to the senior high school to benefit from this intervention.” Dr. Bawumia made this call when he joined the Kurubi festival of the Wangaras at Kintampo, in the Bono-Ahafo Region.

Explaining some of the investments his regime will use the Zongo Development Fund for; he mentioned that it will go into such critical areas as education and training; health and security; as well as to improve access to water, sanitation and infrastructure to bridge the development gap of the Zongo communities.

The festival was on the theme “Transformation of the Zongo Communities, the Role of the Youth.” The Vice President observed that festivals serve to portray how a people govern themselves; they bring togetherness, peace and nation building. He, thus, commended the Wangara communities in Ghana for the successful organisation of the Kurubi festival, warning though that, “Conflicts destroy people; conflicts destroy wealth and we cannot build the future through sensational conflicts. As we gather here today, it is my prayer that the Wangara community in and around Kintampo and Ghana will take lessons from the sacrifices made by those who came before us, so that we can build stronger communities and become worthy citizens.”

Turning to the regime’s flagship policy of One-District, One-Factory, Dr. Bawumia said agriculture and its products will form the very basis of most of the factories, assuring that every constituency in the country will be allocated an additional one million US dollars equivalent annually, for the development of the constituency as captured in the 2018 Budget.

The nation’s number two man asked young graduates to take advantage of his government’s Nation Builders’ Corp initiative to gain more experience crucial for the job market.

The President of the Council of Wangara Chiefs in Ghana, Yusif Fanyinama III, in an address, reported that, “the Kurubi festival continues to expose to the world the huge potentials of cultural and eco-tourism of our people and Kintampo which have attracted both public and private investments and have become a major activity of the World Tourism Day Celebrations and UNESCO heritage festivals.”

He commended the government for the creation of the Zongo and Inner City Ministry, appealing for the establishment of an Urban Roads Secretariat at Kintampo to facilitate the construction and maintenance of the major roads in the municipality before erosion consumes the few roads there.

Sariki Fanyinama also appealed to the Government and National Security to consider absorbing part of the bills of security patrol teams on the Kintampo-Buipe Highway and the security detachment at Portor to reduce pressure on the Municipal Assembly.
