Government’s policy of ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ is now yielding positive results, Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has said in the 2018 budget statement presented to Parliament last week.

According to him, the programme has registered suppliers to distribute farm produce to public institutions to ensure availability of quality food in a timely manner to Ghanaians henceforth.

Ken Ofori-Atta on the floor of parliament last week, told Ghanaians institutions including the Prisons, Defense and Police, among others are ensuring the availability of quality food in a timely manner than before.

Government he emphasized, has revitalized the National Buffer Stock Company to procure, store and distribute the outputs from the Planting for Food and Jobs and other programmes of the Ministry.

“The company in collaboration with the Agricultural Development Bank registered 553 licensed buying companies”, Ken Ofori-Atta said.

“The invasion of the Fall Army Worm (FAW) was successfully managed through distribution of chemicals to farmers; recruitment of spraying gangs; and monitoring and surveillance”, the Finance Minister also reveals the government’s measures to curb future outbreaks of the Fall Army Worm.

“A strategic stock of insecticide and other logistics will be built to ensure ready availability of chemicals during outbreaks as well as intensification of monitoring and surveillance,” he added.
