OAA held a memorial thanksgiving service for 38 Akoras at Aggrey chapel in Achimota School
Old Achimotan Association (OAA) of the Achimota Secondary School on Sunday, 18th October 2017 held a memorial thanksgiving service for departed Akoras at the Aggrey Chapel at Achimota School in Accra as part of their 90th Anniversary celebration.
The memorial service is held annually in commiseration of departed Achimota students during the course of the year.
38 Akoras have departed so far and amongst them are two students, whom one Lilian Dzigbordi Asigbtse was shot and killed on January 4, 2017 by a student colleague.
The memorial thanksgiving service was well attended by the Trade Minister, Honorable Alan John Kyerematen, James Victor Gbeho, Ghanaian lawyer, diplomat and politician, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, President of OAA and CEO of Allure Africa Group and other Akoras and families of a departed Akora.
Reverend Kingsley K. Gyekye, Achimota School Chaplain presided the thanks giving service with a sermon which will fill the families of the departed Akoras with hope and he consoled and shared his condolence to families of all departed Achimotan.

Tribute to Departed Akoras 2017
“Since the beginning of the year, as many as 38 Akoras have passed on to eternity. Some were young and others not so young. As Akoras, we are proud of these men and women as well as boys and girls, who we met at school; who became our brothers and sisters, and continued to associate with us until their departure. They each came into this world with their peculiar strengths and weaknesses.
At school we learned from one another, and so their strength made up for our weaknesses, as indeed we also affected in like manner. They made us better people and we thank them for that. Together we all sought to make our school a much better place than we found it. Different people made their contribution through active engagement with OAA. They participated in events and shared their thoughts and resources on a regular basis.
Achimota School and their families remember them today for the different contributions they made to family and society. We believe that our society is a much better one today as a result of their contributions. That is what was expected of them and they did not disappoint.
In death, we are inspired by the lives they lived on earth. Those of us who remain here draw lessons from the lives and experiences of the departed brothers and sisters. We look forward to the reunion day upon the second coming of Christ our Saviour. May they rest in Peace until that day”.
