A member of the creative industry has called on the National Communication Authority (NCA) to consider the abolishment of TV licence fee and rather institute content task analysis to monitor performance of TV stations.

Discussing the issue of foreign content on peace FM entertainment review, the member indicated that, “NCA should rather allow TV stations that brings foreign content pay tax to support local producers.”

According to him, there should be a regulatory body to ensure quality content and very educative programs from television stations.

“There must be a set standard for all the television stations to help sanitise the system, adding, “these days there are a lot of televisions on DStv but ask yourself, do they meet the requirement.”

“The content must be rich, so that you don’t just close down television stations that are meeting the requirement.”

According to him, “70 per cent must meet local content whilst 30 per cent is taxed on foreign content.”

He said, “yes I agree to what NCA are saying that, before you acquire a license you should meet 70 per cent good content and 30 per cent on other staff.”
