Minister for Aviation, Cecilia Dapaah
The Minister for Aviation Cecilia Dapaah has charged air travel operators to adopt best practices in their operations.
She is confident such an effort will improve the industry’s ratings and help in the ministry’s quest to establish Ghana as an aviation hub in West Africa.
The ministry is currently working on building the Kotoka International Airport as an aviation hub within the West African sub-region.
Speaking at a maiden breakfast meeting between the aviation ministry and stakeholders in the industry in Accra, Madam Dapaah urged travel operators to work to take advantage of the huge potential Ghana’s aviation industry offers.
“The demography of the population shows that there is a huge potential for the growth of aviation in the sub-region. The data and travel patterns present an opportunity for local airlines to grow and expand their operations beyond the borders of Ghana”.
“It is also an opportunity for international carriers operating in the country to form partnerships with local and regional airlines with Ghana as a hub to expand their operations. I therefore urge all to adopt best industry practices to ensure that travel to and within Ghana is as seamless as possible” she stressed.
Meanwhile the minister has disclosed that investors from China, Dubai and Turkey have expressed strong interest to partner government in the development of a world class airport at Prampram in the Greater Accra region.
She added that government is considering all the proposals from the investors to build not just an airport but an aerotropolis.
No gov’t interference in new national airline
The Minister has also assured that there will be no government interference in the operations of Ghana’s new national airline.
According to her, the decision is to promote efficiency and avert another collapse of the proposed new national carrier.
Ghana is yet to re-launch its national airline after the collapse of the Ghana Airways and the Ghana International Airlines.
