The Chief and people of Denkyira-Obuasi have organised a durbar in honour of President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is to make a stop in the town as part of his 6-day tour of Central and Western Regions.
It is the first visit of the President to the town after it got into the news for all the wrong reasons.
Denkyira-Obuasi was at the butt end of national outrage after a commander of a military detachment there, Major Maxwell Adam Mahama was lynched on May 29, 2017, by an angry mob.
Since then, residents have been pleading with the President to visit the town and get first hand information about illegal mining in the rural community.
The President is also scheduled to visit some galamsey sites to monitor the progress of work by the Anti-Galamsey Task Force recently deployed on operation Vanguard.
