Rampant Christian Atsu extended his preseason scoring run with a blistering strike in a 2-0 win for Newcastle United. The former FC Porto wing maestro scored his second goal in the off season to power the Toons over Italian side Hellas Verona.
The Ghana international wasted no time in setting up Ayoze Perez for the opener just four minutes into the game after a dominant spell. The quick footed wide man then doubled his side’s tally on the 12th minute mark to give his a side an unassailable lead in the friendly clash.
The inspired Black Stars attacker then came close to clocking a personal double only to be denied by desperate defending from the Serie B side in the latter stages of the game. Newcastle enjoyed a decent preseason program and will be hoping to replicate that same feat in the English premier league starting from next week.
Atsu’s goalagainst Verona makes it two goals in the off season so far for the former Chelsea and FC Porto winger. He is expected to lead the Toons army on their return to the premier league.
