Samia Yaba Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah has broken silence on the on-going debate started by the NPP and its sympathisers about the struggle for the country’s independence.

In a Facebook post captured by Ghanapoliticsonline.com, she posted that “one would have thought that in this year when are marking the 60th anniversary of independence, our focus would be how to achieve economic emancipation with our youth at the centre of the revolution.”

Below is her Facebook post

We have no issue with the NPP celebrating the 70th anniversary of the formation of the UGCC movement in Ghana.

Kwame Nkrumah, who led our country to independence, said that the struggle for national liberation began before him and will continue after him. Here, he was referring to our economic and cultural liberation.

As we speak today, Ghana is not economically independent. Our economy is not in our hands. The main productive activities including mining, oil and gas, the telecom and banking sectors are all not in our hands. And even the food we eat is mostly imported, and under the threat of becoming genetically-modified

One would have thought that in this year when we are marking the 60th anniversary of independence, our focus would be how to achieve economic emancipation with our youth at the centre of that revolution.
