The Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region has held its First Ordinary Meeting, with a call on Assembly members to help the assembly improve on its internal revenue mobilization.
According to the assembly, for the first half of the year, it has realized 114 thousand one hundred and fifty-three-point-forty Ghana cedis out of the budgeted figure of 463 thousand nine hundred and eighty seven point-zero-six Ghana cedis representing twenty five-point zero percent of the budgeted figure.
Addressing the Assembly members, the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Chief Executive, Williams Aduum, said the assembly has tasked the Finance Administration Sub-Committee to develop a Revenue Mobilization Action Plan to enable the assembly move to close the revenue gaps.
He urged the assembly members, Zonal Council, Unit committee members, Traditional leaders and the various departments of the assembly to play their roles effectively in all activities that will be rolled out from the Action Plan.
On education, the MCE said in the last year’s BECE the municipality recorded only thirty-four-point-one percentage pass with three hundred and thirty eight students out of the one thousand eight hundred and seven students presented for the examination qualifying to proceed to Senior High School.
He described the situation as unacceptable and pledged the assembly’s readiness to provide the needed incentives for educational development in the municipality.
He said since ICT is critical for educational development, the assembly is leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of provision of ICT infrastructure for the various schools in the municipality.
Mr. Aduum said the Assembly has constructed over 20 CHIPs Compounds in the Municipality and plans are underway to add more to bring healthcare delivery to the door steps of the people in the area.
He said the assembly intend to construct One No. 10-unit public urinal and One No. 10-unit public bath at the Navrongo Lorry station in order to check the haphazard way people urinate around the station.
He added that under the DACF, the assembly has lined up the construction of 5 No. slaughter slabs in 5 zonal Councils. Under the LEAP, he revealed, the municipality has received the first half of the year an amount of 360 thousand two hundred and fifty-two Ghana cedis, which has been disbursed to a total of one thousand five hundred and thirty households which is made up of 7 thousand beneficiaries.
Mr. Aduum said the heavy rains have exposed the bad nature of the roads linking market centres in the municipality.
He said measures will be put in place to make the affected roads motorable.
The MCE described the security situation in the area as encouraging and urged stakeholders to help sustain peace in the area. He said some of the streetlights are not functioning and the municipality is sometimes plunged into darkness.
He warned residents to desist from stealing poles meant for improving on the lightening system in the municipality.
All the assembly members pledged their readiness to support any initiative geared towards the development of the area.
