Akufo-Addo orders University of Education, Winneba to resolve all pending issues

WINNE21The President reiterated the desire of his government to get Ghana’s education policies right.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has charged the university governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba to as a matter of urgency come up with measures that will ensure that all disputes at the University and matters pending at the high court are dealt with.

The President made the call when he addressed the University authorities and congregants at the 21st congregation of the University at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah conference centre in Winneba.

“I am aware of recent happenings at UEW, disturbing as it were, it is noteworthy that is appears finality is being brought to beware on the matter.

The current challenges in my view can be best surmounted if all stakeholders act within the confines of the law and respect the rule of law.

Court decisions are not always pleasant but they are in principle, the surest way to resolve disputes. Let us not through our utterance, actions and inactions undermine the authority of our courts. I am by this urging the newly constituted governing council to do all within its power to see to an amicable settlement of all matters pending before the High Court. In the same Vein, Chairperson of the governing council must urgently ensure that the council puts into place measures to seal all loopholes of waste and abuse of public funds”.

Respect for Teachers

The President reiterated the desire of his government to get Ghana’s education policies right.

To that end, the President says his government will ensure that teachers are treated better than they are currently.

” we must begin demonstrating our commitment to the education of our children by respecting teachers. We cannot value the education of our children and yet disrespect the teachers who teach them. I am commitment to ensuring that teachers get better pay and better working conditions”, the President stated.

Pro Vice Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Rev. Fr. Prof. A. Afful-Broni, charged members of the Graduating class to accept posting to rural Ghana.

Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Afful- Broni urged the graduants to willfully accept postings to remote areas of the country and not only the major cities of the country such as Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Cape Coast. In all, a total of 10,587 students graduated at various levels with 904 receiving post graduate degrees, 6,008 receiving graduate degrees and 3,675 diploma.
