Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appietu has said, the outfit lacks adequate equipment to fight crime in the country.
Speaking on the back of the shooting of two unarmed policemen in Accra by armed robbers on Thursday, the IGP called on the government to provide the police with the necessary equipment to work efficiently.
“It is true we have logistics challenge and this is a wake-up call to all of us to ensure that the Police are properly equipped to perform their duties”, he stated.
He added that going forward, the mandatory wearing of armour should be enforced as a policy and all appropriate materials must be provided.
“We are always in danger and if such a thing could happen to us, then the ordinary citizens we are supposed to protect are not safe”, he added.
The IGP said, they will get to the bottom of the issue and ensure the perpetrators of the gruesome act are brought to book.
The police has pledged to give GHC10,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the armed robbers.
