Mr George Ayisi Boateng, a founder member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region has been appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa.

Affectionately called Onipa Nua, Mr Ayisi Boateng received his letter of credence from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday at a ceremony at the Flagstaff House where 21 other ambassadors were also presented with their letters of credence .

Graphic Online’s Presidential correspondent, Victor Kwawkume reported that President Akufo-Addo said the “distinguished men and women” were carefully selected as ambassadors to safeguard and promote the interest of the country outside its shores

He said the appointees had distinguished themselves in several fields, and were eminently fit to represent the country in the areas they had been selected to.

The President said the diplomats had onerous responsibility to promote a country whose reputation among the comity of nations was very high, and regarded as one of the most stable on the continent.

“You have three major roles to play; diplomatic, ceremonial and administrative,” he told his diplomats and advised them to guard jealously, the country’s image because they were the visible symbols of the country.
