Road Accident New CroppedOne hundred and fifty two (152) people have been killed in the Ashanti region

One hundred and fifty two (152) people have been killed in the Ashanti region through road accidents in the first half of this year.

The dead were recorded in a thousand two hundred (1,200) accidents recorded between January and June 2017.

This represents a twenty percent (20%) increase compared to, figures recorded in the same period last year.

The region also recorded three hundred and thirty – three (333) pedestrian knock downs out of which forty (40) died.

Disclosing this to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, the Ashanti regional director of the Road Safety Commission, Engineer Samuel Asiamah indicated that accidents among private cars and motor bikes topped the statistics.

He explained that the trend could be attributed to the inability of the commission to reach out adequately to owners of private vehicles and motor bikes unlike the commercial transport unions who can be targeted in their organized groups.

Ing Samuel Asiamah however assured that strategies will be drawn up within the second half of the year to curb the rising spate of carnage on roads in the region.
