The Commanding Officer  of the 4th  Infantry Battalion Lt. Col. Sebastian Abraham Arhin has indicated that the Military is prepared to assist the Akufo-Addo led-administration to fight  illegal mining (galamsey) in the country.

According to Lt. Col Arhin in an interview with Kumasi-based, Abusua FM, his Unit has been alerted by the government to prepare themselves to give critical support to the fight against the menace.

“So far as we have received letter from government concerning the fight against galamsey operators, we are waiting for instruction from government then we will visit various galamsey areas to stop the galamsey operators,” he stated.

The government is on a campaign to rid the country of illegal mining which is fronted by Chinese nationals residing in Ghana. A three-week ultimatum given by the government for the illegal practice to cease has expired.

However, a 40-day window period has been allowed for the miners to move their machines from the various sites.
