Bad weather conditions in Accra forced u-turn to Kumasi- Starbow CEO explains

Domestic Airline Starbow has debunked claims passengers aboard its Sunday flight to Accra were put in harm’sway.

A statement released by the airline says the Captain made the u-turn to Kumasi as a precautionary measure and quickly flew the passengers back to Accra after the weather conditions in Accra had improved considerably.

The statement was in reaction to a video in which passengers aboard the flight S9103 were heard praying fervently in the aircraft after it emerged the aircraft could not land.

The passengers were visibly shaken by the incident.

However, the Chief Executive Officer of the airline, James Eric Antwi, in the statement said the aircraft was not in danger at all.

The statement copied to Myjoyonline.com said the decision to return to Kumasi was in the interest of the safety of the passengers.

STARBOW’S    SCHEDULED    FLIGHT   S9103  – 9th  APRIL,   2017

Our attention  has been drawn to information  circulating  in some of the local media in relation  to an alleged  incident  which occurred  on Sunday 9th  April, 2017 in relation  to Starbow’s  scheduled flight S9103 en-route  to Accra from Kumasi.

This scheduled  flight S9103 airborne  from Kumasi  to Accra at 15:35 and on approaching destination,  Accra, the weather  changed  resulting  in a severe thunderstorm.

Suffice to add that, moderate  turbulence  which is consistent  with the unstable  weather  condition was experienced  during the flight.

Due to the change  in the weather  at the destination,  the captain entered  a holding  pattern together with other aircraft that were also due to land in Accra, hoping  for conditions  to subside.

When conditions  did not improve,  the captain opted to fly back to Kumasi  so they could return to Accra when conditions  were better.

Due to this, the Captain  decided to return to Kumasi  as a safety precautionary  measure  and all the passengers  were disembarked  safely without  any incident  and the flight was not in any danger at all.

This sudden change in weather  is consistent  with the changing  of the seasons  and cannot certainly  be anticipated.

Starbow  apologizes  to its cherished  guests, especially  those who were on its flight S9103 on Sunday 9th  April, 2017, for any inconvenience  this incident  might have caused.

Thank You.

Yours Sincerely,

James Eric Antwi

Chief Executive  Officer
