Actor John Dumelo is clearly unperturbed by attempts to prosecute him for allegedly attempting to steal a state vehicle as he as promised to gift the winner of the Best Rapper of the Year a brand new V8 vehicle.
Mr Dumelo made the promise to give the Toyota Land Cruiser V8 when he came on stage, together with actress Zynell Zuh, to present the award for that category at the 18th edition of the Ghana Music Awards.
The body tasked to retrieved state cars from former government officials recently disclosed that the actor will be charged with stealing a state vehicle.
Kwame Baffoe, Supervisor of the Task Force on the Retrieval of State Assets speaking on News Night on Joy FM explained John was remodelling the vehicle, a V8 Toyota Land Cruiser with registration GE 8118 –16, worth $150,000, at a Fitting Shop.
After a tip-off, security operatives went to the scene and “the Chasses number and everything clearly showed that the government of Ghana is clearly the importer of the vehicle in question.”
He revealed that, “the officers involved, we have the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) [and] the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), they are building a docket on that and at the appropriate time, he will be arraigned before court. He should be charged for theft because this is a criminal offence.”
But clearly, the actor, who vigorously campaigned for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2016 elections, is not bothered about that.
After happily dancing to the ‘Onaapo’ hit song, which was used by the NDC during the elections, he went ahead to sing a line or two of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign song, ‘Nana Is A Winner’.
He then declared that, “the winner is getting a brand-new V8…” receiving loud cheers from a packed audience at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC). The V8 will be a “2017 model,” the actor added.
John then declared M.anifest as the Best Rapper of the Year.
It is, however, unclear if he truly meant what he said.
