Inmates at the Drug and Alcohol Free Rehabilitation Center (DAFAREC) as well as other vulnerable groups in the Widows and Orphans Home had a lot to smile about Thursday, when the Foscini Group donated clothing, shoes and bags worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to them.

The clothing company which operates at the West Hills Mall decided to support the two groups as part of its corporate social responsibility.

The items donated include men’s shoes, jeans, and shirts and were received with glee by the officials of Drug and Alcohol Free Rehabilitation Center (DAFAREC) at Medie in the Greater Accra Region.

In the Volta Region, members of the ‘Widows and Orphans Home’ were also in jubilant mood after they were presented with ladies dresses and handbags.

The Foscini Group, in collaboration with the Zoomlion Foundation have promised to make further donations to other NGOs at a later date.

The manager of Foshini Group, Mrs Harriet Owusu told the media shortly after the presentation: “We always see the faces of young and old who need our help, and therefore we consider it a privilege to donate these items. Our goal is to see people well clothed and happy.”

She said the group, in partnership with likeminded organizations like the Zoomlion Foundation have been organizing charity programmes for vulnerable people in the society.

Founder of the Rehab, Emmanuel Agyepong was also grateful for the donation.

He said the non-profit, non political, faith based organisation takes drug and alcohol addicts through a one year rehabilitation programme and introduces them to Christ.

“It is our prayer that we will be able to help people who are into drugs to come out of it,” he said.

The inmates DAFAREC could not hold back the joy as some of them shared riveting stories about how they became addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Kingsley Moghalu, a Nigerian and drug addict who is now half way out of the place shared his personal story of how he became rich, after he smuggled cocaine to Bronx in the US and how his entire life came crushing after he got addicted to the substance.
