The first ever awards for the Shipping Industry took place over the weekend at the Labadi Beach Hotel and it has taken the standard of Corporate Awards to a whole new level
Organised by Ninetyeightz Events, the Company behind the Ghana Aviation Awards, the first ever Ghana Shippers Awards recognised key players and organisation in the Shipping Industry in a very well attended colourful event that will forever remain on the minds of all participant.
Delivering the welcoming address, the CEO of Ninetyeightz Events, Bergis Kojo Frimpong indicated that Ghana’s discovery of oil in commercial quantities cannot be written in the history books without an honourable mention of the Marine and Shipping Industry players.
He indicated that the awards which is the first of its kind will be an annual event to recognition individuals and organisations who serve Ghana through the Shipping Industry because Ghana is nothing without the Shipping Industry
The shipping industry generates Ghana’s highest revenue with a contribution of over 80% of Government’s total revenue generated in 2016
Present at the event was Madam Beatrice Vormawaa, Ghana’s first Lady Ship Captain. Acknowledged and called on to give an impromptu address, she indicated that women should take interest in working as seafarers because it is an area women can equally excel as man
She revealed that working as seafarer has given her and her colleagues a broader view of life and instilled in her a sense of discipline and attention to details.
According to her,” even though going to sea is tough, anyone who goes into it comes out seasoned, independent, ambitious and intelligent.”
She called on young ladies to take up the challenge of becoming seafarer because with the requisite training, it is an area they can excel with flying colours and will never regret making that bold step
Consolidated Shipping, McDan Shipping, West Blue Shipping, Red Sea Services and Maersk Line were the biggest winners on the day
