Olam Ghana, a leading food producing company in Ghana, in collaboration with Sanyo Foods of Japan, has opened its newly expanded biscuit manufacturing facility in Tema to produce quality biscuits for both the domestic and international markets.
The new state-of-the-art Nutrifoods Biscuits facility, including an additional third production line, is estimated at $8.25 million.
Over 150 people are expected to get jobs in addition to about 2,000 people currently employed.
Alan K. Kyeremanten, Minister of Trade and Industry, who opened the facility, said the expansion of the facility by the stakeholders is a major milestone not only for Nutrifoods Biscuits but the entire food manufacturing sector in Ghana.
According to him, he was excited about the company’s vision to create jobs which he said was in line with government’s One-district-one-factory policy.
He reiterated government’s commitment to creating more jobs through the implementation of the policy.
The Minister advised Ghanaians to consider venturing into entrepreneurship and private enterprises in order to be successful, appealing to Ghanaians to support the government’s industrial transformation through agriculture and industries to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for Trade and Industry of Singapore, was optimistic more Singapore companies can participate actively in Ghana’s growth as a result of the current economic system and business environment.
He noted that Singapore companies are not only investing in the physical infrastructure but improving human resources in Ghana.
Chitwan Singh, Business Head at Nutrifood Biscuit said, “With this expansion, we have doubled our existing production capacity, developed a new capability to make more varieties of biscuits, enhanced food safety and security through automation of our production line and increased employment in other areas of operation.
On his part, Amit Agrawal, Country Head of Olam Ghana, stressed that the investment underlined the company’s ongoing commitment to producing quality goods.
According to him, “The Ghanaian government has created a conducive environment for investments and businesses to thrive, which augurs well for future investments to flow into the country. We are proud to provide Ghanaian consumers with products suited to their taste, with many of our brands among the favourites here such as King Crackers, Perk, Tasty Tom, Royal Aroma, Royal Feast and First Choice.”
As part of the commemoration, Olam Ghana would donate 63,000 packs of fortified milky magic biscuits to the Klagon TMA Basic School in the year.
