The Patriotic Ladies Club (PLC), an appendage of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has embarked on a five-hour clean-up exercise at the Amasaman Market in the Ga West Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.

The clean-up exercise, carried out on Saturday, March 18, 2017, received gargantuan public attention.

The group, numbering about 50 – including patrons drawn from all the 10 regions of Ghana – cleared garbage in the market as part of the group’s contribution towards Ghana’s 60th  independence anniversary celebration.

According to the group – which played a massive role during the electioneering campaign period last year which culminated in the landslide victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) – it is a social responsibility as citizens of Ghana to help keep the country clean.

In an interview, Lady Smart, National Coordinator of the Club, remarked that the clean-up at the Amasaman Market was necessary because the place had been engulfed with filth which could lead to the outbreak of a communicable disease.

She added that since the 60th milestone of the country’s self-rule falls in the month of March, it is prudent that the entire country is kept clean as investors will be trooping into the country.

Lady Smart called on all social groups and civil organizations to support “in any way possible to help keep our towns and cities clean.”
